Animal Christmas Gifts

‘Twas the week before Christmas, and all through the zoo…The animals received presents, just like me and you! The animals here at the Hattiesburg Zoo received some fantastic gifts with the help of Miss Krissy’s Christmas campers, the keepers, and the one and only Santa Claus! Santa knew he wasn’t going to be able to eat all of the Christmas cookies this year so he decided to give some special “gingerbread” cookies to all of the monkeys. Tigger was a very good girl and received a huge gift all tied with a bow which contained some of her favorite treats inside. She eagerly tore it up to make sure she got all of the good stuff. Cody was also on the nice list and got a huge gift as well, and decided to enjoy his treats inside the big box they came in. The lemurs enjoyed shaking and knocking over their gifts to see if they could guess what Santa had brought for them. The macaques also received three nice big gifts with a wonderful selection of fruit inside. The servals had to fight off the Grinch in order to get their presents. Their Christmas spirit overpowered that mean old Grinch and they were able to enjoy their treats as well as the box they came in. Our female serval decided to hide in the box while her brothers fended off the Grinch, and she gave them a nice surprise when they came to claim their presents!

Christmas is one of the many holidays we like to celebrate with the animals here at the zoo. Holidays provide great opportunities to entertain the animals as well as the guests at the zoo with things they don’t always get to see!

We have compiled a wish list of enrichment items that our animals would love to have, not just for Christmas, but the whole year through! Here is the link if you would like to contribute to the enrichment program at the Hattiesburg Zoo, any donations are greatly appreciated!
